Child reasoning tasks: a first observation tool for psychologists
Software for observing the non-verbal and verbal reasoning of children aged 3 to 15 through tasks. A psychologist administers it and the result is used as a first observation.
Who it is for
Psychologists who work with children. One of three forms is chosen automatically by the child's age: Form A for ages 3-6, Form B for ages 7-10, Form C for ages 11-15.
What problem it solves
A psychologist needs a ready, age-appropriate set of tasks and a record of the answers to observe a child's reasoning. The app presents the tasks and records response time and results.
What is inside
3 forms
Form A (ages 3-6), B (ages 7-10), C (ages 11-15). The form is chosen by age.
Non-verbal tasks
Figure-based items are generated from rules.
Verbal tasks
Word items are drawn from a ready bank. For young children the psychologist reads the task aloud.
Stopping rule
After a set number of consecutive errors that type is closed, so the child is not tired unnecessarily.
Response time
There is no time limit, response time is only recorded.
Report
Number of correct answers, time and results by task type.
Parental consent
The parent's consent is recorded before the test starts.
Data protection
The child's first and last name are not written to the database and stay on the device.
This is not a standardised IQ test. No IQ score is given and there are no age norms. The result is for first observation only and does not replace the results of standardised tests such as WISC-V and Leiter-3. The app does not diagnose.
How it is run
Psychologist sign-in
The psychologist signs in with a Google account. Access is granted by the centre.
Child details
Enter the name, age and the psychologist's name, and tick the parental consent.
Tasks
The form is chosen by age and the child completes the tasks.
Result
The psychologist interprets the result together with observation and other information.
Access
The tool is at the pilot stage. A psychologist signs in with Google and sends a request, and access is granted for 1, 6 or 12 months. Write to us on WhatsApp for terms.
